I was born in Lisbon in 1966, and I am a petroleum geologist. My interest in photography has arisen at an early age, first by watching my grandfather using his Rolleiflex TLR, and after that by watching my father using his Canon FTb SLR. Then, at the university, field trips have further consolidated my interest for photographing in the outdoors.
My main interests as a photographer are Landscapes, Travel, and Nature. I have been fortunate enough to work in more or less exotic places (exotic to me, that is), and through time my approach to photography has changed somewhat. These days, I am more interested in photographing People in their cultural environment. I also enjoy writing very much, and from this image-text combination, a few of my articles have been published. This is something that I want to keenly pursue.
Portugal is a small but diversified country, any travel guide will tell that. But the keen traveler and observer will need to spend some time to go “off the beaten track”, to be able to fully immerse himself, or herself, into some of the country’s best kept secrets. Like the Southwest Vicentina coast, where the waves of the Atlantic come rushing in towards deserted and pristine beaches. Or like the Northeast of the country, Trás-os-Montes, an area characterized by rugged terrains and rugged people. In the end, the image reflects the eye of the observer, and its sensitivity to capture what surrounds him (or her).
No doubt about it, the internet has revolutionized the way humankind communicates, and images are perhaps the most powerful way of communicating. However, there is something to be said about looking into a print in a wall, there is a sense of “awe” that it is more difficult to find in a computer monitor.
I am currently represented by ALLTO1 image bank. However, for a more direct contact, or enquiry about other photos, you can reach me in the indicated e-mail. I also collaborate with the "Traveller Photographers Network" online magazine.
